You will attend college on a Wednesday evening 6.00-8.45pm and will be required to be an experienced volunteer or be employed in one of the settings mentioned in the course overview.

You may be required to complete a 12-week induction programme in the first instance to assess the most appropriate progression route. This induction course attendance is on a Wednesday evening 6-9pm. We will discuss this with you at your interview.

How long is the course?

This is a 12-month course. You will be required to attend college on a Wednesday evening at the Derby road site between 6.00-8.45pm and be employed or volunteer in the childcare setting for a minimum of 12 hours per week.

Although this course can take up to one year to complete, many students complete their studies well within this timeframe.

How will I be assessed?

This diploma consists of a variety of units which are assessed either by being observed in practice in the setting or are knowledge-based set written assignments.

Evidence for each unit is gathered using a selection of different methods including being observed in practice by an allocated assessor, answering written questions and producing written evidence of practice and knowledge.

Qualified Childcare Practitioner status

Entry requirements

You must be 19 years of age or over and be able to study at Level 3. You must be proficient in literacy and numeracy.

You must undertake an interview, have two satisfactory references and complete a criminal record check.

How much does it cost?

The costs are shown below but please ask at enquiry or interview as these depend on your individual circumstances and previous qualifications according to specific criteria. The induction part of the course has a nominal fee.

Payments can be paid in 4 instalments for the main programme.
