You will be assessed through observation within the workplace, reports, written assignments and externally-assessed tasks.What will I study?
This course will cover many areas that may include development from conception to 16 years, the principles underpinning the role for practitioners working with children, working with children with special needs, and play and learning in children's education.You will also study a Functional Skill at a level appropriate to you.
What does the course lead to?
Upon successful completion of the course, you could opt to study further professional qualifications in early years or primary teacher training, nursing or social work, as the course has a UCAS accreditation of up to 420 points.You will also be able to apply to study the Foundation Degree in Children's and Young People's Services (available at the college) or gain employment in a childcare setting (as a nursery nurse, teaching assistant or early years worker).
Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above (must include English Language), or the CACHE Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce or a Distinction* grade Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification.You will also need to be successful at interview and provide two suitable references (at least one from a tutor/teacher), prior to acceptance.
You will be required to have a CRB check that you will fund prior to any placement.
