Course description
This course is ideal for any individual who wants to work in the
children and young people’s workforce. The course develops the
wide-ranging knowledge and skills needed when working with children
and young people from birth up to 19 years. Covering a diverse
range of job roles and occupational areas - including those in
social care settings - it offers a wealth of career opportunities.
On completion learners will be able to work unsupervised as nursery
nurses with children and young people or as managers in an Early
Years Setting. It is a must-have for all practitioners delivering
the Early Years Foundation Stage. There are 11 mandatory units and
5 optional units to complete in this qualification.

- Communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- Equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
- Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- Understand child and young person development

- Develop positive relationships with children, young people and others involved in their care
- Working together for the benefit of children and young people
- Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people
Who is this course for?
Designed for those wishing to progress in the following areas:
Nursery Nurse, manager or supervisor in day nurseries, nursery
schools and nursery or reception classes in primary schools,
children’s centres manager or registered childminders and
nannies.
Additional information
Every learner will have to have about 400 hours work experience
placement throughout the duration of the course (minimum 16 hours
of placement a week). All learners must have a placement which can
vary in hours and can include childrens centres, nurseries,
playgroups, creche etc.
Assessment:
- Interpretation of knowledge from direct observation of practice in the workplace
- Written assignments
- Learner’s own plans and written records of all units will be either pass or refer.
