Description

Following on from the Playwork and Childcare course, the NC Early Education & Childcare is a nationally recognised award at SCQF level 6. Students will develop key knowledge and understanding within the early years' sector which is in the process of up-skilling all of its employees to meet the professional standards required for registration with Scottish Services Council (SSSC). The course prepares candidates for the HNC Early Education & Childcare and is linked to National Occupational Standards.

Candidates will be in placement for 2 days a week and in College for a further 3 days.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This course is suitable for people with Standard Grades; one of which must be English at credit level and one other credit level subject. Other subjects must be at general Level or above. In addition is is desirable to have relevant work experience or to have successfully completed a relevant course at introductory level.

Please note that for all care courses involving work experience placement, an offer of a place is subject to a satisfactory check through Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) certificate.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

On successful completion, students may apply to undertake the HNC Early Education and Childcare (SCQF level 7) which is a route necessary to become a fully qualified practitioner. Alternatively, the candidate can enter employment as a support worker before undertaking SVQ training.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

A system of continuous assessments which will include closed book and open book questions; essays, presentations and case studies are used. There are 2 Highers contained within the award. One written exam at the end of the year which is externally marked by SQA and a play project also marked by SQA.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

On successful completion students may progress onto the HNC Early Education and Childcare or enter employment as a support worker to undertake SVQ training.
