Description
The advanced apprenticeship is about providing support in the classroom under the direction of a teacher. It will enable you to develop your working knowledge and understanding of how to promote the development of children and enable them to achieve their full potential.You will gain knowledge of the legislative guidelines, policies and curriculum requirements and how to implement these within your practice as well as gaining numeracy, literacy and information technology functional skills to support your work with children.
How long is the course?
The course usually takes between 18 months to two years to complete dependent on the level being undertaken to complete the whole framework.Workplace delivery of underpinning knowledge is planned to meet individual learner’s needs.
Alternatively you might attend evening classes.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment methods are varied and include the following:Assignments and an online assessment
A practical assessment and paper-based assessment for paediatric first aid.
A paper-based portfolio building and online assessment of functional skills application of number, communications, and information communication technology
Paper-based induction booklet
A variety of evidence collection methods including observation in your childcare setting by an assessor, professional discussions, reflective accounts, case studies and individual projects.
What will I study?
You can train towards a childcare framework and will cover the following:
- Specialist Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3
- Functional Skills Application of Number Level 2
- Functional Skills Communication Level 2
- Functional Skills Information Communication Technology Level 2
- Paper-based induction booklet
What does the course lead to?
This course will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and professional skills you can use in your current/future career within childcare and education.On completion you can move on in your vocational field into senior teaching assistant level roles after gaining the appropriate experience.
What can I go on to study?
You may progress onto the Foundation Degree in Children’s and Young People’s Services-Teaching Assistants.Entry requirements
You must already have the qualification at Level 2 and YOU MUST ALREADY BE EMPLOYED IN A CHILDCARE ROLE.All applicants will be invited to an interview to discuss qualifications, experience and functional skills requirements.
How much does it cost?
If you are between the age of 16 and 18 the apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.
