You spend one day a week in college participating in classroom and practical-based sessions. The other four days are spent in the workplace putting what you have learned into practice.

Aspects of training will be divided between college and the workplace. Time in college will be spent both in the classroom and the workshops. You will then take the skills you have learnt at college out to the workplace and will be expected to bring in work based evidence and build a portfolio with the evidence you have collected in the workplace.

An assessor will visit your workplace to observe your working practices. All functional skills (English and maths) will be delivered at college within your day release.

You build the basic knowledge required to carry out many motor vehicle tasks, and you gain an insight into the profession and a valuable insight into future careers open to you within the motor industry.

There are no entry requirements for this course but when you apply, you will be invited in to an initial assessment to ensure that you are at the correct level of learning. You will then be invited in to college for an interview with a member of the motor vehicle team.

On successful completion of the course you can progress to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Potential jobs roles within the industry include vehicle service technician, auto electrician, and workshop controller.
