Aims
The Health and Social Care Act (2012) set out a radically different health service. The new public health commissioning landscape will emerge from April 2013 and will involve new health and well being boards. These have been created to provide political and managerial leadership, drive and coordinate local planning processes, such as the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, to inform health improvement strategies and address health inequalities.

This training programme aims to provide a one-day overview of the evolving public health landscape and an understanding of population health and ill-health.
Objectives
Attendance at this course will provide you insight into the role of Local Authorities and health professionals in taking the Public Health agenda forward, and will provide you with the ability to:
- Understand the new policy context and the responsibilities of Local Authorities and other partners
- Interpret basic health data and health-related evidence
- Understand health, wellbeing and health inequalities
- Explain the public health challenges that can be influenced by local authorities
