- Provides an option for care workers or those interested in future health professional career to develop fundamental care skills through skills teaching and simulation.
- From September 2014, there is the opportunity for students to take the programme as a two year fast track degree.
Course content
This degree level programme will enable you to develop in depth knowledge and understanding of health and society, health care and public health. It will develop core skills and values to enhance opportunities for a future health career.
You will explore the physiological, sociological and psychological determinants of health, legal and ethical perspectives of health and the key public health issues facing individuals, communities and societies. You will examine the ways in which health and social care is organised and delivered and consider leadership and quality of health organisations. You will consider and have opportunities to develop your skills for working within health and/or social care organisations
In the second and third year you will have the opportunity to relate knowledge and skills to a chosen health related workplace, including an option to learn fundamental caring skills necessary for patient care.
Students considering application to a postgraduate health and social care professions programme can use work based modules to develop any experiential requirements to enhance their application.

Career opportunities
The health and social care sector is a major employer. Graduate careers include working as health promotion specialists, HR executives, health service administrators and General Practice managers. Those interested in careers health promotion and public health can move into related public health careers in the NHS or local government, independent health or social enterprise sectors.
The course is also designed to enable graduates to apply for a range of postgraduate health and social care professional training programmes including nursing and social work.
Graduates could also progress onto Glyndwr Universities MBA (Health Care Management) MSc Health Sciences (with routes in Public health and Health Care Leadership)
Alternatively, the course produces the graduate skills necessary for students to work in a different employment sector and career path.
Entry requirements
240- 280 UCAS points at GCE A Level or equivalent. Appropriate AS Level and Level 3 / Key Skills qualifications will also be taken into account. Fast track route (From Sept 2014) - 300 plus UCAS points at GCE A Level or alternate Level 3 qualifications
Duration
Three years: Full time (September 2013)
Two years: Full time fast track – from September 2014. To be confirmed
Six years: Part time (September and January) To be confirmed.
