This course enables individuals to attain competency in public
health practice. It facilitates the acquisition of the knowledge,

improvement activities. It also meets the skills for health
competencies for public health practice. One of the courses key
strengths is the focus on learning through work-based placements
and projects.
The course was developed in partnership with a wide range of
employers in public health in Scotland and provides an excellent
grounding for people in Scotland, the UK, Europe and the wider
international market.
EXIT AWARDS: MSc(180 credits) )/PgDip (120 credits)/ PgCert (60

Delivery: At QMU with additional onlinelearning
Single Modules: Register as an associate student to study single
modules in areas of interest
Duration: Full-time: 1 year; Part-time: 2 years
Start date: September
Application deadline: The deadline for all overseas applicants who
require a visa to study in the UK should apply no later than the
30th June 2013.
Teaching, learning and assessment: Teaching is designed to develop
skills in critical analysis, synthesis, evaluation and application
to practice and may include lectures, seminars, group work,
independent work and practice placements.
Assessment strategies are designed to encompass development of
transferrable skills to ensure the rigour of academic thinking and
also to promote the achievement of the students personal and
professional goals. The varied assessment strategies include
personal critiques, portfolios, literature reviews, and reports.
Masters students will be given guidance and feedback on their
projects through the supervisory process.
Teaching hours and attendance: Each module which you study
on-campus will require you to attend classes and carry out
independent work. Your attendanc requirements at QMU will depend on
which module you are studying and whether you are studying full or
part-time.
Links with industry/professional bodies: The course has links with
the health boards and local authority public health and community
development services.
