Advanced Social Work

The University of Greenwich offers both Advanced Social Work and Higher Specialist Social Work programmes. These have been designed to enable social workers employed in social work practice to gain a post-qualifying award in social work at the higher specialist or advanced levels. These programmes incorporate the specialist standards prescribed by the General Social Care Council under its post-qualifying framework for social work education and training. To undertake these programmes students must already be qualified in social work and be registered with the GSCC.

Students who successfully complete 120 credits of study are awarded the postgraduate diploma. Those who complete an additional 60 credits are awarded the MA.

These programmes have been planned through close consultation with stakeholders in the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors and with service users and carers.

The programmes are flexible, enabling students to study on a part-time basis and integrate into work contemporary theoretical perspectives to develop their professional practice. There are two pathways: Social Work with Children and Families and Social Work Practice Education.
