What can this course lead to? This module can be taken on a stand-alone basis or as part of the University Certificate Practice Development: Stroke Care. Credit and UCAS requirements Credit: 20 credits Selection criteria The selection criteria reflect those of the owning programme, University Certificate Practice Development: Stroke Care. Applicants should have NVQ level 3 in health care or equivalent level 3 qualifications. Full consideration will be given to applicants who do not have the above formal qualifications but who have significant relevant work experience within Stroke Care. All applicants should be employed in settings where they will have access to stroke patients; this could include NHS, private and voluntary providers. Applicants should have access to a suitably qualified workplace mentor. Modules HLLG4013 Acute Stroke Care and Support (20 credits at level 4) Course summary Pathology of stroke; overview of key body systems: assessment and diagnosis of acute stroke ; effects of stroke on key body systems; assessment and early intervention for physical, cognitive, perceptual, psychological, communication and social difficulties arising from stroke. Interventions to prevent and manage complications arising as a result of acute stroke, palliative care.
