Course Content
To achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England learners must achieve a minimum of 46 credits. You complete 9 core units accounting for 24 credits:
- Introduction to communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
- The role of the health and social care worker
- Implement person centred approaches in health and social care
- Contribute to health and safety in health and social care
- Handle information in health and social care settings
- Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings. You also choose optional units that suit your career plans. Units you might choose include:
- Causes and spread of infection
- Understand the impact of acquired brain injury on individuals
- Introductory awareness of models of disability
- Approaches to enable rights and choices for individuals with dementia whilst minimising risks
- Support individuals to eat and drink
- Contribute to the care of a deceased person.
Assessment Method
The qualification is made up of: Competence based units There will be a combination of assessment methods for this qualification which meets competence units. Direct observation of candidate's performance by a qualified occupationally competent assessor and the assessor's judgement on testimony from a witness are the main methods of assessment and main source of evidence. The evidence must at all times reflect the policies and procedures of the workplace as informed by current legislation, the relevant service standards and codes of practice for the sector. Knowledge based units Learners may choose to undertake the knowledge one of two ways,
- Portfolio of evidence, using diverse range of assessment methods
- Externally set and internally verified assignments

This qualification has replaced the NVQ 2 Health and Social Care.
Entry Requirements
This qualification is only for learners 16 years and above.There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this qualification. However,the candidate must be able to gain evidence for the qualification in the work place either as a member of staff or a volunteer. The offer of a place will be subject to an assessment of literacy and numeracy.
