This course is for teachers who are involved in mentoring to support teacher development.

During this course you will examine definitions of effective teaching and develop your understanding of the different stages of teacher development. You will learn how mentoring can help the professional development of teachers, re-energise their practice, expand their creativity and develop new ideas in the workplace. You will develop the skills of reflective practice which you will use as the basis for the systematic examination of learning teaching and use this examination to consider potential changes in the practice.

You will develop the skills of reflective practice which you will use as the basis for the systematic examination of learning teaching and use this examination to consider potential changes in the practice.

You will develop the skills and strategies for effective mentoring including listening, observing, recording, planning and questioning as well as examining ethical issues associated with mentoring.

You will attend an initial session where you will meet your module tutor and fellow students. All subsequent study will be through an e-learning process using WebCT through which you will interact with your tutor and fellow students on-line.
