Course Assessments The Manicure and Pedicure course is marked through a process of continuous assessment guided by your tutor following standard guidelines. This means that your certificate of achievement will be awarded according to your performance on assessments rather than by taking an exam. We send the full course out, you then read through the course in your own time and complete the assignments which you send to your tutor for marking. There is no word count for these assignments. However, one sentence answers will be rejected and you will have to re-submit it for marking. Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a certificate of achievement will be awarded by ABC Awards, as confirmation that your written work has met all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the programme.
Course Duration We recommend you spend approximately 110 hours of your time studying for the Manicure and Pedicure course. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 2 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but if you could spare 4 hours a week you could complete it in six months. Get started today, and you can earn your Level 3 Certificate of Achievement in Manicure and Pedicure in as little as six months, or take up to a year, if you prefer – the choice is yours.

Module 1: Anatomy and Physiology of the skin, Diseases of the skin Summarise the functions of the skin, identify its layers and explain the role of sweat glands Identify diseases of the skin, diseases of the sweat glands and list the types of lesions that are discussed in this unit Module 2: The Foot Examine the functions of the foot with regards to weight bearing, locomotion and shock absorption Identify the foot conditions described in this unit and how each should be treated Module 3: The Nail Disorders and Diagnosis Differentiate between Onychocrytposis and Onychrogryphosis Explain in detail how toenails should be cut Module 4: Implements and Materials List the implements involved in manicures and pedicures and summarise the cosmetics involved. Module 5: Manicure Procedure Summarise the steps and procedures involved in a manicure Module 6: Pedicure Procedure Interpret the importance of hand protection and list the types of nail breaks that occur and how they should be treated Identify and explain the stages of a pedicure procedure Module 7: Hands and Arm Massage Summarise the principles of massage and explain the main movements involved List the benefits of and contra indications to massage Module 8: Sterilisation Business Advice Identify and explain the sterilisation methods discussed in this unit List the seven factors contributing to the hygiene of your salon
Course Qualifications This is a dual certification course. You will receive a certificate from both the College and also ABC Awards. Fees for both are included in the course fee. Qualification One: Manicure and Pedicure Diploma Manicure and Pedicure Diploma issued by the UK Learning College. Qualification Two: Level 3 Manicure and Pedicure Certificate of Achievement At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement by ABC Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the details of all the units you have completed as part of your course). The course has been endorsed under the ABC Awards’ Quality Licence Scheme. This means that it has undergone an external quality check to ensure that it meets certain quality criteria. The completion of this course alone does not lead to an Ofqual regulated qualification but may be used as evidence of knowledge and skills towards regulated qualifications in the future. The unit summary can be used as evidence towards Recognition of Prior Learning if you wish to progress your studies in this sector. To this end the learning outcomes of the course have been benchmarked at Level 3 against level descriptors published by Ofqual for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, to indicate the depth of study and level of difficulty involved in successful completion by the learner. The course itself has been designed by the college to meet specific learners’ or employers’ requirements. ABC Awards’ endorsement involves a robust and rigorous quality audit by external inspectors to ensure quality is consistently met. A regular review of courses is carried out as part of the endorsement process. In Scotland this course leads to a Level 6 for successful learners.
