This programme is designed to provide a sound knowledge and skills of all aspects of grooming. You will learn various breeds, including scissoring, handstripping and clipping techniques. This course will also include first aid and customer care.
The programme content includes:
- Assess and plan dog grooming work
- Carry out styling and finishing of dogs
- Plan the handling and restraint of animals
- Supervise and control the movement of animals
- Plan the accommodation of animals
- Recognise and interpret the behaviour of animals
- Promote and maintain the health and well-being of animals
- Improve the customer relationship
You must also complete 210 hours work experience.

NPTC Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Animal Care (Dog Grooming)
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
Either completion of level 2 grooming, a
short course in grooming or you may also have gained experience
through working in an animal environment.
You must show a natural ability to work with dogs.
Assessment:
Assessment is continuous throughout the programme. Each unit is assessed by a variety of methods including assignments, practicals, tests and a portfolio of evidence.
Progression from this course:
Many of our students go on to open their own business or seek employment as a fully qualified groomer. You could also become a city and guilds advanced groomer.
