before applying for teaching posts in the sector. In the
pre-service route, the College provides teaching placements which
satisfy the requirements of the full-teacher role. The course
comprises level 4 and level 5 mandatory and optional units, but
will be awarded at level 5 on completion. It has a total value of
120 credits.
Part One (Level 4 Units)
Preparing to teach, plan and enable learning in the lifelong
learning sector (15 credits)
Effective professional practice (30 credits)
Optional Unit (15 credits)
NB: The Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
is embedded within the part one modules.
Part Two (Level 5 Units)
Curriculum Design for Inclusive Practice (15 credits)
Continuing personal and professional development (30 credits)
Optional Unit (15 credits)
NB: University modules are mapped to the LLUK Learning Outcomes for
DTLLS at Level 5.

The pre-service course runs full time for 1 year. The part-time
course usually runs one evening per week from 15:00 to 20:00 over
two years.
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
For the in-service (part-time) route: A
minimum Level 3 subject-qualification, or substantial experience.
Registration with the Institute for Learning (IfL) is highly
recommended. Level 2 Literacy, or employer's explicit support to
enable an individual to achieve Level 2 Literacy in the first year
of the part-time route.
For the pre-service (full-time) route: A minimum Level 3
subject-qualification. Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy. Successful
applicants will be offered places subject to satisfactory CRB-check
and placement risk assessment, and will be expected to join the
Institute for Learning (IfL) upon accepting a place on the
programme. Places on the pre-service route are subject to
competitive interview.
Assessment:
Observation of practice is completed through a class-based microteach and a minimum of eight hours of observed practice. Knowledge and understanding is assessed through written coursework. Knowledge of minimum core is embedded within the coursework.
