A vocational qualification which combines practical skills with the necessary knowledge and understanding. Units include: Mucking out and yard maintenance, feeding and watering, health care, health and safety and working with others. Optional units to include: Grooming, plaiting, fitting tack, rugging and bandaging, grassland management, travelling and lungeing. Management or Riding pathways can be undertaken.

Assessment:

Training and assessment takes place on the yard with quality assurance provided by the College of West Anglia by means of observed practicals and portfolio samples. This means that the candidate is in a more relaxed environment for assessment whilst having the assurance of a robust appeals system should a disagreement occur.

Progression from this course:

City and Guilds Diploma in Work-based Horse Care and Management – Level Three, BHS Stage 3, City and Guilds Diploma in Horse Care 3 (Cambridge campus based), etc.
Also further training or employment, for example - farrier, equine dentist, groom, etc

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information.
