Description
This course is for those who are interested in computing and information technology. You do not need to have any previous experience with computers.
This course provides a broad understanding of the uses of computers in commerce and industry in order to prepare you for entry to the level 3 extended diploma. You will learn basic applications, programming, hardware and software.
The course is currently made up of seven units. A typical choice of units might be:
- Computer systems and technical fault finding
- Communicating and working in IT
- Web development and programming
- Databases

End Qualification:
BTEC First Diploma in Information Technology Level 2
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
1 GCSE at grade C (must be English or maths) and at least 3 GCSEs at grade D or above (both maths and English cannot be lower than grade D) or a pass in level 1 diploma and successful completion of other components of the course.
Assessment:
All units are internally assessed via coursework assignments and tests. Students who produce excellent work may gain merit or distinction grades.
Progression from this course:
If you pass all the units and gain an overall Merit or Distinction grade, you can progress onto the BTEC diploma in computing level 3 if you also have a grade C GCSE in English and Maths and a tutor recommendation.

Course Costs:
All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information.
