This course is for anyone wishing to work in computing, networking information technology, or business information systems, or anyone wishing to progress to a PGCE and work either as a teacher or lecturer.
Like all higher level computing courses at the College the BSc (Hons) is module based and covers the basic areas of computing and Information Technology. Modules are primarily practical based wherever possible, using a wide range of relevant software on a variety of computer platforms.
The course offers the following modules:

Year 1
- Fundamentals of design - software design methodologies
- Introduction to programming - using C#
- Computer systems - how computers work, the CPU, computer
logic
- Introduction to Electronic Content Origination
- Introduction to web design - HTML, CSS, java scripting etc.
Year 2
- Group design project - work in teams to solve realistic data
processing problem
- Object oriented programming - further programming using C++
- Database design and implementation - Using MySQL
- Computer network principles - follows the CISCO CCNA semesters 1
and 2 syllabus.
- Interaction and usability
- Systems modelling and software design patterns
Year 3
- Undergraduate Major Project
- Distributed Systems Programming - Using COM, CORBA etc.
- Networking technologies - follows the CISCO CCNA semesters 3 and
4 syllabus.
- Emerging technologies
- Professional Issues

This is a full-time course and attendance will be 3 or 4 days a
week. The course can also be studied part time.
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
- A-Levels in suitable subjects equivalent
to 200 UCAS points or National Diploma/Award equivalent to 200
(MMM) UCAS points or students who have successfully completed an
Access to Computing course.
- Students with suitable experience will also be considered.
- All students must have GCSE English and mathematics at grade C or
above.
Assessment:
Most modules are assessed by assignments, log books and/or coursework. Some modules require final tests. Assignments are normally equivalent to a 3,000 word essay. Logbooks record student's progress through a module.
Progression from this course:
Either to work placements or further study such as an MSc or PGCE for a teaching qualification.

Tuition fees for 2013-14 are as follows: Full-time - £6500; Part-time - pro rata (usually 50% of full-time fee).
