This apprenticeship is aimed at people who have completed the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship (ILA) in Vehicle Maintenance and wish to extend their training to include more in-depth knowledge of vehicle systems and the use of diagnostic techniques.

The Competency Diploma at Level 2 is made up of mandatory units plus a number of optional units to meet employer requirements. Examples of these units are: Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Engine faults, and Competency in Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Chassis System faults. The Technical Certificate is achieved through college day release and provides specialist knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles. Achievement of the framework will take approximately 18 months

End Qualification:

Through the Institute of the Motor Industry the following will be achieved:
- Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence
- Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (technical certificate)
- Functional Skills in English, Maths & ICT at Level 2
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

You will be assessed for your potential to achieve the apprenticeship.
You may need to undergo an initial assessment of your English and Maths skills in which you are required to be working at/towards, at least, level 2.

At the start of your apprenticeship programme you will need to be employed by a suitable and appropriate employer preferably for at least 30 hours per week. You also need to have been a resident in the EU for at least 3 years.

Commitment and motivation are necessary to complete the course

Assessment:

The Competency Diploma is assessed through a portfolio of workplace activities.
The Technical Certificate and Functional skills are delivered in college on a day release basis.
The Technical Certificate element assesses knowledge through on-line multiple choice testing and by assessments set within the college environment.
The Employment Rights and Responsibilities qualification is assessed through completion of a workbook.
Personal Learning and Thinking Skills are evidenced through work and learning activities

Progression from this course:

It is possible to progress to MOT Tester and a number of senior job roles within the automotive industry. With further training there are also Higher Education opportunities – for more careers information visit www.autocity.org.uk

Course Costs:

There are currently no fees payable by young people on Apprenticeship programmes. Fees may be payable by the employer where the candidate is 19 or older. Details available on request.
