Coursework: 40%
Creative Writing (literary and non-literary writing; comparative commentary).

Exam: 60% (150 mins)
Critical reading of literary and non-literary texts (poetry anthology; Audrey Niffenegger's The Time-Traveler's Wife; H.G. Wells' The Time Machine).

A2 level (year 2)

Coursework: 40%
Analysing performance texts: King Lear; Top Girls, The Godfather, 4:48 Psychosis.
Producing performance texts and commentary.

Exam: 60% (150 mins)
Comparative textual analysis and review: Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.

The course is delivered through group, pair and individual projects and investigations, project presentations, lectures, readings, discussions, timed assignments, drama activities and writing workshops. Students would be expected to devote at least 5 hours of directed study (homework, preparation, reading) per week.

End Qualification:

Year 1: AS Level English Language and Literature
Year 2: A2 Level English Language and Literature

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English language and literature at grade C.

Assessment:

40% coursework and 60% exams.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials/resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. £40 per year for set texts, revision guides and module booklets. £50 per year to cover course trips.
