Full-Time courses for 16-18 School Leavers are Free.
If you are aged between 19 and 23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, tuition fees will be waived. If you meet the Eligible Benefit criteria, tuition fees will be waived. (Registration Fees will still apply).
Course Content: The course is academic with some practical content. You learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Whilst on the course you will cover a range of topics such as:
• Maths
• Science
• Engineering materials
• Computer aided design
• Computer numerical control and workshop practices Entry
Qualification: You will need to meet at least one of the
following:
• Appropriate GCSEs (normally at least 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above)
including Maths and English
• A BTEC Level 1 in Engineering or equivalent with at least all
Merits plus GCSE Maths and English at grade D or above
• A relevant Engineering NVQ at Level 2 plus GCSE Maths and English
at grade D or above Special Features: • The specialist units enable
you to study a particular area in more depth.
• All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the
qualification is awarded. The course is academic with some
practical content.
• Assessment is via written assignments and end tests
You will also cover the following units:
• Applied Science for Technicians
• Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
• Working Safely and Effectively in Engineering
• Interpreting and Using Engineering Information
• Engineering Marking out
• Using CAD Techniques in Engineering
• Part Programming CNC machines
• Selecting Engineering Materials
• Selecting and Using Machining Techniques to Remove Material
Progression: You can progress on to a Level 3 Engineering Diploma,
or onto a Modern Apprenticeship in areas such as Fabrication,
Machining, CNC or Technical Services.
