If you are aged between 19 and 23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, tuition fees will be waived. If you meet the Eligible Benefit criteria, tuition fees will be waived. (Registration Fees will still apply).

Course Content: This course is ideal for students who don’t have a
great deal of art and design experience and wish to develop their
practical skills and knowledge further, or require to build a
portfolio of work in order to progress onto one of our Level 3
Extended Diploma courses. The course will enable you to develop
your drawing, painting and making skills through a series of art
and design activities, and you’ll be introduced to a range of
specialist areas such as Graphics, Fine Art, Textiles, Fashion,
Print-making and 3D work using wood, metal and clay. This will
allow you to build a portfolio of work and gain the qualifications
needed to progress to a Level 3 course.
In addition, all students are expected to attend Functional Skills
classes in Maths and English. Entry Qualification: Applicants are
expected to have a minimum of 2 GCSE’s grade C or above,
preferably, one of which will be in an Art & Design subject. A
keen interest in the subject is essential along with some evidence
of previous art or design work brought to interview. Special
Features: Art and Design, Fashion, Photography and Multimedia
students study in the Art School located at the Ashton Centre. The
Art School building has been purpose designed for students and
includes the latest digital technology studios and workshops
allowing students to work with industrial technology and excellent
facilities while also benefiting from working within a realistic
working environment. Course Format: Student work is assessed on a
continuous basis with students completing various assignments and
coursework, which are compiled into a portfolio for the award.
Progression: Having successfully completed the course, which is
equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A*–C, you will have the opportunity to
further your education at Tameside College through Level 3 Extended
Diplomas in Fashion, Photography, Graphics, General Art &
Design and Video Games and Animation.
