Course Content: This beginners course is designed for students who
wish to develop their ICT skills through gaining a hands-on
appreciation of how computers work and how they are used in
business. A wide selection of units gives a solid grounding in
different areas of ICT.
During this one year course learners will study a range of units
which include:
• IT User Fundamentals
• Using the internet to plan a trip
• Using email
• Website Software
• Exploring digital photography
• Imaging software
• Creating business documents
• Working in business administration
As part of your course you will enrol upon Functional Skills. This
will support you to improve your Maths and English. In addition you
will undertake Personal Social Development skills to support you in
your future entry into employment or progression.
Entry Qualification: You will need to be at least 16 years of age
but otherwise there are no formal entry requirements. We will,
however, be looking for a reasonable standard of literacy, numeracy
and general ICT skills. The most important requirement is that you
are keen to gain new skills and qualifications. Entry will be
determined via interview. Special Features: All students will have
access to up to date IT facilities as well as LearningBox (our
Virtual Learning Environment). Support and advice is available
throughout the duration of the course from teaching and Additional
Learning Staff. Course Format: This is a vocational course where
students are assessed via the production of an electronic
portfolio. This will consist of practical demonstrations,
observations, written reports, presentations and video evidence.
All units are based around a central scenario giving learners the
opportunity to apply learning to real world situations.
Progression: You could progress onto the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in
Information and Creative Technology or into employment.
