What does the course include?

If you are going to be 24 or older at the start of this course, you could be be entitled to an Advaned Learning Loan which will cover your tuition fees. Please click here for more information.

This course will enable employed teaching assistants to develop in depth knowledge and skills needed to support teaching and learning in schools. Teaching assistants working voluntary in schools will also be considered.

The Level 3 qualification is suitable for learners in more senior roles that support children in either primary or secondary schools.

The course will cover 11 mandatory units leading to a total of 32 credits.

Units covered will include: safeguarding, health and safety, child and young person’s development, communication, supporting learning activities, equality, diversity & inclusion as well as promoting positive behaviour.

This City and Guild’s QCF qualification is based on the National Occupational Standards, which sets out best practice for the role of teaching assistants.

What do I need to get on this course?

All learners will need to be working or volunteering in the classroom. If volunteering, a minimum of 12 hours per week is necessary. Good levels of literacy are required. This will be assessed by an initial assessment before starting the course.

Learners must be 19+ years in order to enrol on this course.

How will I be assessed?

The course is work based. After the initial course induction, all further underpinning knowledge and tutor meetings will take place weekly in the workplace on a one-to-one basis flexible to the learners needs.
