Who is this course for?

Do you want a career in the Media, specifically in Journalism or Public Relations?

The Journalism pathway of the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to enter a career in Journalism and the wider creative media industry and/or progress onto Higher Education. The Journalism pathway will give you a full understanding of the creative media industry with a focus on gaining journalistic and public relations skills and invaluable, practical work experience. Film and Television units are also available if you wish to develop camera and video editing techniques in preparation for broadcast journalism, music journalism and photojournalism. You will be involved in a range of practical projects to develop management and writing skills. You also have the opportunity to write articles and take photographs for the College magazine, 'The Source' as well as the Lichfield Mercury newspaper who publish many stories and articles written by our students, complete with the student's name on the by-line. This is a huge bonus for any aspiring Journalist. Real world work experience is central to the continuing success of this course.

What will I do on the course?

There are several Core units designed to improve communication and research skills alongside opportunities to work with and manage others. These units will help you develop the essential transferable skills required by universities and employers. The Journalism pathway also offers a range of Specialist units including:

What qualifications do I need?

4 GSCEs at Grades A-C including English or Maths OR 5 GCSEs at Grades A-C excluding English or Maths
