Who is this course for?

The intention of this course is to develop your skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you for a career as a make-up artist.

What will I do on the course?

This qualification has specifically been designed for that builds on existing knowledge and understanding of make-up artistry gained at Level 2, enabling learners to expand the scope of their technical skills to prepare learners for employment as a make-up artist. The content of this qualification is comprised of all the required elements to work effectively as a make-up artist including airbrush make-up for the face, camouflage make-up, fashion and photographic make-up and media make-up. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practice in a salon environment. During this course you will learn how to demonstrate your skills on other learners, models and clients. In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, confidence building, social and practical skills, and English and Maths. We also offer English and Maths GCSE resist.

What qualifications do I need?

• 4 GCSEs Grade D or above
• Level 2 Beauty Therapy Qualification
• You should have a strong interest in working in the beauty industry and demonstrate a commitment to succeed
• Successful trade test

What could I do after completing the course?

When you have successfully completed this qualification you will have the opportunity to progress to the following qualifications:

• Level 3 Diploma Nail services

Employment

• Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
• Theatre, film, print media, photographic studios

How will I be assessed?

As part of this qualification you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. A portfolio will confirm the knowledge, understanding and skills that have been learned. It may be in electronic or paper format. You will be assessed by:

• Practical assessments observed in the salon
• Assignments or online tests
• E-learning project work
• Research / worksheets / written questions/ case studies
• Oral questioning

What equipment will I need?

Learners will be required to purchase a salon uniform and make up kit in order for them to successfully participate and complete the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
