You'll work on your own projects, as well as in groups you can select from a range of options choosing a mechanical or electronic theme.Balanced by your studies in mathematics you'll also get a solid foundation in manufacturing and engineering concepts, software engineering and Industrial Applications of Computers.

To ensure you're well equipped for your final year project, you'll study units in business management and business strategy.

To boost your marketability further, this course offers you a good level of personalisation. You can choose a mechanical or electronic theme through either Applied Mechanics and Computer Aided Design or Electronic Design and Electronic Systems, as well as a modern language.

Professional accreditation

This degree is CEng accredited by the IET in fulfilment of the educational requirements for Chartered Engineer when presented with an accredited MSc or equivalent further learning. In addition, the degree meets the educational requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer.

Level 1 (Two years)

  • Analogue and Digital Electronics
  • Engineering Concepts
  • Manufacturing Concepts
  • Microcomputer Systems or Materials
  • Mathematics
  • Project Management
  • Business Management Techniques
  • Mechanical Principles.

Level 2 (Two years)

  • Manufacturing Systems
  • Software Engineering
  • Electronic Design or Applied Mechanics
  • Electronic Systems or Computer Aided Design
  • Instrumentation and Control Systems
  • Marketing for Technologist
  • Quality Systems
  • Data Communications and Networks.

You may opt to study either a Mechanical or Electronics Theme and may continue study of a second EU language as a supplementary unit.

Level 3 (Two years)

  • Industrial Applications of Computers
  • Manufacturing Strategy and Design
  • Business Strategy.

Depending on your interests and career aspirations you can choose an options from:

  • Strength of Materials
  • Entrepreneurship.

You'll also undertake a final major project involving a practical or theoretical system, which may be developed in partnership with an industrial company.

Assessment

Progress on the course is determined by means of continual assessment, using coursework, projects and end-of-year examinations.

Fees

Fees for the 2012/13 academic year are:

£3,900 pa for UK and EU students.
