Successful students will be invited to study for the Extended Diploma which they will complete in year two of the course.
The course is designed to give you a varied learning experience
and provides a balance between discussion and theory sessions and
more practical activities such as personal fitness, sport and
outdoor activities. You will study a wide variety of units focusing
on: citizenship, command and control, criminology, diversity,
emergency service incidents, employment in the public services,
Government and the public services, human behaviour, international
perspectives, law, land-based and water-based skills, team
development, team leadership, understanding discipline, physical
preparation and fitness, and outdoor and adventurous expeditions.
You will learn how to become a more independent learner as the
course will develop your analytical and critical thinking skills as
well as team working and leadership skills.
All eighteen units are assessed by coursework. The course also
features residential trips and offsite practical activities.
Assessment is carried out using a variety of methods including
individual work projects, group work, presentations, research and
case studies, as well as input from guest speakers.
You benefit from computer workshop facilities, and there are also open access computer resources in the library.
Four GCSE grades A*-C including English Language and Maths, or a First Diploma at Merit and above with Functional Skills at Level 2.
You could apply to the Armed Forces and Emergency Services such as the Police, Ambulance or Fire Service. Progression to higher education is also a popular route.
