All aspects of training are carried out in college in the classroom
and the workshops. You will then take the skills you have learned
at college out to the workplace, and will be expected to bring in
work-based evidence and build a portfolio with the evidence you
have collected in the workplace.
An assessor will visit your workplace to observe your working
practices.
You gain the basic knowledge required to carry out many general maintenance tasks, and you get an insight into the future careers open to you.
Upon application you will be invited in for an interview and an
initial assessment to make sure that the course is right for you.
There are no other restrictions to becoming an apprentice except
that you need to be over the age of 16 and to have been settled in
the UK for at least the past three years.
You must already be working within the Industry. You need to
achieve Entry Level 3 at English and maths in the initial
assessment.
You could progress to Level 3 construction qualifications and apprenticeships.
A career in construction means you need to be prepared to work
outside in all weathers. Some work requires a good head for
heights.
Many of these occupations are physically demanding so you should
have a good level of fitness and be able to work quickly while
