Beauty Therapy Level 1 Certificate

This course is designed for 16+ learners or learners that have /are about to complete their education. There is no entry requirement for this programme but all interviewees must have a positive school reference accompanying them. This course is designed for anyone who wishes to go into the beauty therapy industry and develop their knowledge and skills in basic skin care and hand care, which will be beneficial within a department store environment (beauty counters) and /or as part of progressing and developing more knowledge and additional skills ready for the next level.

The course is divided into ten subjects to include practical units in skin care, face painting, basic hand care and manicure. You will be required to complete a series of tasks to accompany each of the practical units in order to be successful in this programme. Functional skills in English Maths and ICT will be part of your timetable and will enable you to progress onto Level 2 Beauty Therapy. You will have a tutor throughout your course to support you and make sure that you are on track to complete your qualification.

You will watch demonstrations of all of your treatments and then practice on a partner. This will include having your make up and nail varnish taken off during the first two terms in order for you to experience the treatment and let your partner demonstrate their skills. All practical assessments will be carried out on the general public as well as friends and /or family in order for you to gain your qualification. Please visit our website and look at The Salon information and price list. All of your theory classes will be taught with the aid of a work pack and may also include research whilst in class. The majority of tasks will be completed whilst in class so that you can have help and support in understanding what is required. All work packs and hand outs will be put onto our virtual learning site Moodle so that you are able to download any information needed. A college navy uniform and Level 1 kit is essential to purchase prior to the course starting (details to be given at interview). You will work towards building a portfolio of evidence throughout your course which will be built throughout your year with the help of your tutor.

You will gain functional skills in English Maths and ICT at Level 1. Knowledge and skills in basic skin care, hand care, manicure and face painting. The opportunity to work as a team and build relationships as part of our department show. Access to the college facilities whenever it is needed excluding bank holidays and over the Christmas period. Guest speakers will be invited in so that you gain expert advice and information.

No formal entry requirements. A good standard of English. It would be beneficial for learners to have a creative ability with clear communication skills and knowledge of science and/or PE theory (not essential).

You can progress on to courses such as the Beauty Therapy Level 2 Diploma Hair and Media Make-up Level 2 Diploma Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma or work as a Junior in a beauty salon.
