Apprenticeship Wood Occupations (Site Carpentry/Bench Joinery)
Diploma Level 2 Course Details There are no formal qualifications
needed to commence the Wood Occupations Framework, although we
prefer that you have a good standard of education. You will be
required to sit an aptitude test, for English and Maths, to support
your application, and complete Functional Skills during the course
unless exempt. To gain the qualifications listed below, you will
need to be in a placement which involves working in a wood
occupations environment and assisting a tradesman/woman in
practical activities, in order to gain the relevant occupational

Framework is: NVQ/Diploma Level 2: There are two types of NVQ,
depending on the work you do with your employer. The following
units are mandatory as part of both NVQ. The following aremandatory
core units: Conform to general workplace safety. Conform to
efficient work practices. Move and handle resources. The following
are optional if following the ‘Site’ option (choose any three):
Install first fixing components. Install second fixing components.
Erect structural carcassing components. Maintain non-structural
carpentry work. Set up and use circular saws. The following
aremandatoryif following the ‘Bench Work’ option: Manufacture
routine products. The following areoptions if following the ‘Bench’
Route (choose one): Set up and use circular saws. Produce joinery
setting out details. Mark out joinery from setting out details. You
will collect evidence from work and produce a portfolio to prove
you have the skills.
