Apprenticeship in Wood Occupations: Site Carpentry

The Programme

Wood Occupations includes Site Carpentry, Bench Joinery or Wood Machining. An Apprentice will also study for the Construction Diploma Level 2, the CSCS Health and Safety card and the NVQ Diploma Level 2 in Wood Occupations. They may then progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) which will include the Construction Diploma Level 3. The Apprenticeship can be studied through either day or block release The framework for an apprentice in Site Carpentry Level 2 includes: The NVQ Diploma Level 2 (work based), the Diploma in Site Carpentry Level 2 (college based), Functional skills in Maths and English at Level 1, ERR (Employers Rights and Responsibilities) and PLTS (Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills).

The Programme Content

Entry Requirements

Initial assessment result at Level 1 or GCSE grade C in Maths and English or Level 1 course in Wood Occupations. Candidates must be 16 years of age or over and employed. You will need to take a SLE test during interview which will measure your competence to do an apprenticeship at Level 2.

Progression

Full completion of the qualification will allow you to progress to an apprenticeship at Level 3 in Site Carpentry. You must be employed to be able to complete the NVQ Diploma Level 3.

Length of Study

This course will last two years. You will need to attend college one or two days per week, depending on previous qualifications.
