Communication difficulties are common with conditions including dementia, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis and stroke related illness.
This session provides a practical introduction to communication difficulties, introducing practical strategies to support a resident/client trying to get their message across.

Who the course is aimed at:
Staff caring for people with communication difficulties. Home managers with residents who have dementia, stroke-related impairment, Parkinson's disease, MS and other long term conditions.
Course content:
- Looking at how communication works
- Understanding the difference between language impairment and loss of intelligence
- Recognising poor communication
- Learning through role play activity
- Introducing the Total Communication approach
- Using the strategies learned

Active training, encouraging full participation. Practical exercises, case history discussions and experience sharing.
Course outcome/qualification:
PTC Certificate of Attendance.
