AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting - Home study / Distance learning

The AAT level 3 introduces you to more complex accounting tasks, such as maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns.

This AAT course is perfect if you’ve completed AAT level 2, or you’re already at a more intermediate level and looking to develop existing accounting skills. 

Administrative and management processes relevant to finance officer roles, including preparing final accounts for small businesses; cost accounting recording; preparing reports and returns.

Accounts preparation

After completion of this unit, the student will have a good understanding of the accounting principles

and concepts underlying all financial accounting. Having developed a fuller understanding of the

accounting equation, they will understand the nature and importance of the different categories of

account and how the books and records relate to each other.

Prepare final accounts for sole traders and partnerships

The student will develop accounting skills in restructuring accounting information from incomplete

records and preparing financial statements for sole traders. The student will be able to use different

techniques to restructure accounts to find missing information and understand the significance and

limitations of the trial balance. They will become familiar with the statement of financial position and

statement of profit or loss.

Costs and revenues

Students will develop an understanding of how costs

are handled in organisations, and why different organisations treat costs in different ways. They will

be able to recognise different approaches to cost accounting and make informed and reasoned

judgements to guide management.
