The course involves many practical aspects and covers the VRQ Professional Diploma at Level 2 in Professional Cookery and Professional Food Service. Additionally there are a number of other qualifications that learners can achieve including Food Hygiene and Wines and Spirits. Work experience is part of the programme and there may be excellent opportunities to work in another European country.

The course is designed to engage the student through practical and class based units and in year two of the programme, learners will have an exciting opportunity to plan and implement a themed event evening within our professional restaurant. Other subjects include contemporary and Asian cuisine, planning events and alcoholic beverages.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably with a grade C in English.
Costs
Protective clothing and equipment will cost about £250. There may be some costs involved with work experience and educational visits - previous visits have included lunch and tours at some of the nations finest restaurants.

Progression
Learners can progress to study for a Foundation Degree in Event Management at Petroc or apply to universities to study Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts or similar. In recent years students have progressed to university and have studied abroad as part of their course. Other students have gained highly successful careers with leading chefs including Michael Caines of Gidleigh Park and Heston Blumenthal at The Fat Duck.
