Whenever we watch a TV programme, a film or a play, most of us do not realise that for every presenter or actor fronting the production, many more individuals are involved behind the scenes. This course delivers the skills required to engage in general production, across theatre, television, film, concerts and live events. In particular, students focus on:
- Stage Management
- Stage Design
- Stage Lighting
- Sound
- Music Production
- Costume and Make-up
- Front of House operations.

The course is geared towards students who enjoy practical, hands-on activities. Students benefit from being taught by industry professionals and will work with real theatrical and film production companies, gaining valuable experience. Students can then progress into the production industry itself, or onto a related university course.
If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.
Special Features
Our aim is to train our students to a high level of professionalism, giving them the skills they need to enter the production industry. Highlights of the course to date have included regular live events in association with the National Trust; work on the Disney musical 'Jungle Book'; and visits from professional set designers and make-up/special effects artists. Students have also worked on live sound production for a range of musical events.
Assessment Methods
A mixture of practical and written assignments.
