Learning will take place in language classes and a range of lively options including modules that explore contemporary French culture, society and politics. You will achieve a high level of communicative skill, and an in-depth understanding of French culture and society. To further increase your career options you can take a final year module that develops translation and interpreting skills.
Take a year abroadThe year abroad option will allow you to increase your foreign language fluency and understanding of other cultures. You will come away with an experience that will give you a real advantage when competing for the best jobs. In year three you can spend time working or studying in France. Our partner Universities are found in Aix-en-Provence, Clermont-Ferrand, Paris XII, Lille, Strasbourg and Versailles. There are no fees to pay for the year abroad and students remaining within Europe receive a grant from the EU.

Language learning support
To provide opportunities to develop language skills outside the
classroom, you will have access to our excellent language resource
centres which provide:
- internet access
- audio-visual facilities
- an extensive library of the latest Spanish-language films
- computer-aided language learning software
- course-related books, materials and periodicals.
Books and library resources
In our library
you will have access to an extensive and diverse range of books
including those on your reading list. The library also stocks
french periodicals. Clifton campus has its own Blackwell’s Bookshop
which stocks relevant academic texts plus a wide range of
bestselling novels.
IT resources
Our IT resource rooms and PC
clusters are distributed across Clifton campus, with PCs providing
access to Microsoft Office, email, web browsing, networked file
storage and high-speed online printing services (with a free
printing allowance for each student). Resource rooms are available
24 hours a day.
