The Programme
This course will build on the skills you developed at GCSE level
and you will continue to improve your knowledge of the French
language in the key areas of speaking, listening, reading and
writing. You will also develop your knowledge of French speaking
countries and have the opportunity to participate in a French

activities
- Communication and media
- Education and training: school and school life, work and
training
A2 Level
- Social issues: exclusion, law and order and unemployment
- The environment: recycling, energy management, pollution and
conservation
- Science and technology: medical progress, scientific advances,
impact on lifestyles and society
- Cultural heritage: the arts
The exam is divided into two units each year, one testing your oral
skills, the other your reading, writing and listening skills.
The Programme Content
The course is varied, lively and enjoyable. There are opportunities for debates and discussions on topical issues which are in the news, and to travel to France and discover a new way of life. The course helps you to communicate with young people from other countries, it broadens your general knowledge and will improve your understanding of life and people. Studying French will also give you a better perception of your own language and its intricacies.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above. We recommend a grade B in French.
Costs
You will be required to buy a French textbook at the beginning
of the course and another one in the second year. The cost of this
is approximately £20 per textbook*.

Progression
You may decide to continue with languages at university by
studying French at degree level or combine it with another foreign
language, English, law, business and management, media or for use
in your future career.
Length of Study
AS Level one year, A Level two years.
