All creative people can benefit from an understanding of the human body and how to represent it through drawing. Whether you are interested in art, design, architecture or performance, the ability to draw from a life model is an essential and exciting skill that can support many other creative activities. This course has been especially arranged for 16 and 17 year olds who may want to enhance their drawing skills and portfolio, whether applying to art school or not.

On this course you will begin with black and white materials using pencils and charcoal and, as the course develops, you will begin experimenting with colour and collage. Your practical studio work will involve drawing short and long poses, group critiques and one-to-one guidance, supported by demonstrations and short talks about life drawing and how it has been approached by other artists. Studio activities will be accompanied by optional homework projects so that you can keep drawing between sessions.

By the end of the course you will have developed your observational skills, be confident in your use of materials and be inspired to continue your drawing activities and develop your own approach outside of the classroom.
