Education Studies, Professional Diploma

The Professional Diploma in Education Studies (PDES) is designed for professionals from any education sector, or public or private training organisation, who wish to learn more about their professional environment and current education issues and policy.

The aim of this course is to develop your knowledge, understanding and critical thinking in the rapidly changing education environment. You will focus on your own experience while undertaking an investigation and research project into an area of your choice. You will work independently with support from tutors and a number of taught evening sessions.

The PDES is an ideal platform for continuing professional development which may provide access to graduate status through further study.

The PDES involves three modules which allow you to explore educational issues through your professional experience:

• Exploration of a professional context
• Investigation of an area of practice
• Professional research project

You will learn through a mixture of group sessions, group and individual tutorials and online support. The emphasis is on 'independent learning', allowing you to take responsibility for your study within an agreed framework.

Taught sessions will be delivered on a part-time basis during the evening.

Students who complete modules 2 and 3 may be awarded the Professional Certificate in Education Studies.
