Is this course for me?

This course will enhance your employability skills and provide the foundations for you to progress to work or further study. The course is suitable for people who have taken time out from working due to family or personal commitments or feel they need a career change but lack the confidence and need to update the skills presently asked for by employers.

What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

You need to be working at a minimum of working towards Entry 3 for literacy and numeracy and have the intention and desire to continue studying or returning to work. This course will also help you learn portfolio building skills.

What does the course involve?

You will improve your English skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening some of which will be based on various career sectors. You will also work on your numeracy, basic computing skills and presentation skills. There will be regular support sessions including careers’ advice, updating your CV, job application forms and interview tips. There will be background information on a variety of careers and the opportunity of work experience at college or through our connections with local businesses. You will be helped to learn to have the confidence in yourself and your abilities to progress onto vocational courses or return to work. Learners need to be able to commit to a total of 15 hours for a full year and be available and interested in completing work experience, tutorial sessions, research topics and further study opportunities and directed study. You will gain qualifications or units of qualifications in: English Functional Skills Maths Functional Skills Skills for Life ICT Edexcel Employability and Personal Development Level 1 or 2

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? You will be able to progress on to the next level course to continue to improve your maths and English or onto a level 1 or 2 vocational course in your chosen area (e.g. business admin or IT).
