Criminology and Applied Law with AS Sociology combine to create an exciting new vocational course which allows you to explore the criminal justice system and contemporary debates around crime and deviance. You will embark on an innovative course of study with specialist tutors who will support you in the development of research and analytical skills, ensuring that you achieve your full potential. You will visit courts, attend lectures by lawyers, judges, social workers and criminologists, and use your newly acquired knowledge to carry out practical, activity-based workshops where you will apply your knowledge to real-life cases. You will be assessed by coursework and controlled assessment.In addition to Criminology and Applied Law, you will also study AS Sociology so that you develop a broad understanding of the context within which law-making and crime and deviance occurs. Topics include Families and Households and Education with research methods. This element of the course is assessed by external examination and will require extended essay writing.
What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? The knowledge and understanding that you will develop is relevant to many careers in the criminal justice system. You will have the opportunity to develop techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for further academic study at higher education level.
