The HND Social Sciences forms an academic basis for progression to study at university and related employment. The units are relevant to the development of competencies required for academic progress, e.g. knowledge and evaluation skills in the social sciences linked to an investigative and critical approach, all underpinned by essential higher order skills. The course is equivalent to SCQF level 8.

The course is equivalent to SCQF level 8.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Typical applicants will be expected to have two/ three Highers, preferably in English or social science subjects such as Sociology, Psychology, History, Modern Studies and Geography. Students who have successfully completed a SCQF level 6 course, including Higher Communication will also be considered. For those returning to education, life skills and experience in the workplace may allow entry subject to availability.
Please note: A personal laptop computer will be required for studies at College and home.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is aimed at students who would like to gain an advanced social science qualification which will allow them to undertake undergraduate study at Year 2 at the University of Aberdeen and either Year 2 or 3 at RGU.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This course is assessed on a continuous basis and includes an internal end of course Graded Examination. Assessed coursework takes the form of closed and open book essays, however, formative assessments will include structured questions, presentations and practical projects. All the assessment of student work is undertaken by College staff.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Partnerships with several universities allow successful candidates to be considered for direct entry to year 2 at the University of Aberdeen and either year 2 or year 3 at the RobertGordonUniversity. Employment opportunities may include civil service, police, administration, voluntary sector partnerships and development programmes such as Urban Regeneration and Community Development. However, the essential higher order skills developed in this academic programme offers successful candidates a range of skills that are sought after by employers.
