This course develops your basic skills in childcare education and play-work and gives you direct experience of working in an early years setting.
You will learn about the care of children, play and practical activities, growth and development, food and nutrition and health and safety.

years setting.
You will learn about the care of children, play and practical
activities, growth and development, food and nutrition and health
and safety.

In the third term you will complete 15 days of supervised practical
work in a childcare setting. The course also gives you the
opportunity to improve your literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
Assessment is through assignment work.
You learn through classroom-based activities practical workshops
and a supervised placement in the final term.
You will gain a personal social and development qualification together with functional skills.
Applicants for a Level 1 programme will normally have:
- a strong interest in their chosen programme of study
- the commitment to work towards improving English and maths as
part of the programme
- the ability to discuss past experiences of education and future
ambitions in an interview
Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an
internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and
numeracy needs supported within the programme.
Successful achievement of this foundation award with a merit or a distinction can lead to further study on the Childcare and Education Level 2 Diploma.
