Early Education & Childcare HNC
The HNC Early Education and Childcare is a 12 credit nationally recognised award. Students will develop the knowledge and understanding to work in a practitioner role.
This one year course is designed as the second stage of education and training leading to full registration with the Scottish Social Services Council. The course consists of two and a half days in College and two days per week work placement in one of the following settings: nursery/infant class; workplace nursery; school for children with additional support needs, family centre.

The Early Education and Childcare sector demands that applicants are motivated and have a positive work attitude. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. A genuine interest in working with children is also essential.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Typical applicants will be expected to have two Highers, one of which should be English. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in and an aptitude for work in the sector and have childcare experience or have successfully completed the appropriate non-advanced college course.
Please note that for all care courses involving work experience placement, an offer of a place is subject to a satisfactory check through Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) certificate.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is appropriate for people (men or women of any age) who have completed the NC Early Education and Childcare and have experience of working in an early years setting. On successful completion students may apply to university to study Teacher Education.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
A system of continuous assessments is used which will include closed book and open book questions; essays, presentations and case studies. The graded unit is a report on some aspect of investigation based on practice. It is marked by the Centre and externally moderated.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion students may apply to university or enter employment in an early years setting which may inlude Nursery Practitioner, Play-leader/Coordinator/Nanny or Childminder.
