Construction (Crafts) Introduction to

This course, which is equivalent to SCQF level 4/5, has been developed for school leavers wishing to try a broad range of the practical trade skills found in the construction industry. In addition, theoretical aspects are covered which provide students with an appreciation of the construction industry. Students will have attained sufficient skills in the main construction crafts by the end of the course to allow them to identify the ones they enjoy or those that they have a particular aptitude in.

You may require qualifications if you wish to continue onto a trade apprenticeship, in which case we would usually hope for at least 3 Standard Grades at General/Credit in maths, English and one other.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
Although this course is principally designed for school leavers it is open to anyone wishing to try out the trades offered by the college.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Most of the assessment is of the practical tasks you will carry out. Core skills is assessed by short written assessment or, e.g. items produced on computer or by presentations.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Successful completion of this course will assist students in gaining an apprenticeship in their preferred trade. Students will be expected to undertake the ConstructionSkills (CITB) selection test prior to applying for an apprenticeship.
