This HNC will enable students to develop knowledge and skills relevant to the health care sector. Candidates attend a practical placement in a care environment in order to achieve the full HNC Health Care award. The placement may include shift work and will consist of 760 hours of training.

This award is under review so there will be some changes to the units and to the title but the qualification will still allow for progression for successful completion into second year of the degree course at RGU. On applying you will be provided with updated information.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This course is suitable for people with 2 Highers, or who have successfully completed a relevant non-advanced course. Candidates who have successfully completed the NC Health and Social Care SCQF Level 6 (Nursing route) will be considered for a place on the HNC.

Evidence of membership of the PVG Scheme in respect of Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults will be required prior to placement allocation.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is designed for men and women who want to work in the Healthcare profession as Nurses. It may also provide avenues for those who want to work as support workers in Healthcare.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Course work is assessed in a variety of ways including, projects, short answer questions, essays and some closed book assessments, as well as oral and practical.

The Graded Unit is a portfolio of evidence. It is marked by the centre and externally moderated by SQA.

The emphasis is centred on student centred learning, where students are encouraged and supported to complete independent research.

Students are encouraged from an early stage to take responsibility for their own learning and the use of the colleges Virtual learning Environment is actively encouraged.

A unit overview, covering each learning the lecturer at the start of each unit will give outcome and particular assessment details.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Successful candidates may gain entry to Year 2 of Nurse training (B Nursing;Adult or Mental Health). Candidates can progress to the HND Social Services.
