North Hertfordshire College is pleased to announce the creation of a new Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/D) in Health and Social Care. This is a one or two year course. If you have a Level 3 qualification and experience in health and social care and would like to enhance your curriculum vitae by gaining a level 4 or level 5 qualification, coupled with vocational experience; the HNC/HND in Health and Social Care will support this ambition.

Applicants should have a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care e.g. BTEC National Diploma or NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care. Also, it is preferable that students have attained GCSEs in both English & Maths at grade C or above.

What does the course involve?

The course is made up of 8 units totalling 120 credits, including 5 mandatory units in areas such as; communication, principles of working in health and social care and health and safety. The course will be delivered through a series of lectures, seminars, presentations, independent study and tutorials. Assessment is through assignment work, case studies and presentations. The course is designed over three semesters to provide you with both the underpinning skills and knowledge to work in the health and/or social care sector and the opportunity to gain experience within the sector.

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? Completion of the programme can lead to employment within the sector or to either the second or third year of a degree or honours degree programme, depending on University admission tariffs.
