Is it for me?

This course is for you if you are serious about the subject and keen to pursue a future career in the outdoor industry. It is the equivalent of 2 A Levels in terms of teaching time and UCAS points. It is normally taught over 2 years with students completing 6 units in each year.

It is designed to give students a real experience and the skills to seriously start the progression towards a career working in the outdoors. The course primarily focuses on developing the knowledge, physical skills and leadership skills needed to work in the outdoor industry.

You will have some experience of outdoor activities and be very keen to go out and develop your expertise. You will need to be organised and practically minded and prefer to learn and work on assignments.

Although there are no formal practical requirements, students should be able to demonstrate some outdoor experience, aptitude and fitness to ensure they enjoy and can complete the practical units.

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A* to C, with a Grade C or above in English Language preferred.


Which courses go well with this?

Goes well with other vocational courses e.g. Applied Biology and some A Levels.


Progression:

Progression routes are employment or further training within the outdoor industry, outdoor education degrees, sports and physical education degrees. Often students are looking to pursue a career in the leisure industry. If combined with another Advanced Level course, the UCAS points are acceptable as the equivalent of 2 A Levels and provide the opportunity to progress to higher level courses in related fields.
